If you're on this page, you're probably wondering, 'what the hell is affiliate marketing?'. Well, look no further, because we're about to fill you in on this brilliant type of marketing that see's your engagement, ROI and revenue go through the roof. So, what is it?

Simply put: affiliate marketing is an arrangement by an online retailers that pays commission to an external website, social media profile, Youtube channel etc for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.

What is an example of affiliate marketing?

We'll use Apple.com as an example in this. Apple is releasing a new iPhone 13 Pro Max Gold Edition, and they want to work with affiliates to create brand awareness and drive sales through their website.

Apple reaches out to affiliates through the Avelon Network and says, "I'll give you 15% of every sale you generate through our eCommerce site".

The affiliate creates a tracking link through Avelon's unique tracking technology and when a consumer clicks that link and makes a purchase, the affiliate gets a 15% commission payment as a thank you for driving that sale.

Simple.

Does the sale have to go through that link?

Considered purchases are purchases in which, you guessed it, the consumer considers the purchase, i.e it takes them a while to decide. This could be down to price, the store they're purchasing from or maybe they just aren't ready to purchase. Because of this, the first click on a link rarely makes a sale.

Avelon's unique tracking technology tracks this user from the initial link click, all the way through to the purchase, meaning that even if the user only clicks the link once but comes back in 50-days to make the purchase, the purchase is still assigned to the affiliate.

In short: no, it doesn't have to go through that link, but they have to click the link at some point in their journey.

How much money can an affiliate marketer make?

The amount of money an affiliate marketer can make depends on many factors, but mainly it's on the size, engagement rate and how authentic they are. In 2021, the micro-influencers (5000 - 15000 followers) and their small but highly engaged followers actually accounted for 72% of all affiliate sales, proving it's not just for the multi-million Instagram profiles out there.

We recommend working with multiple brands / retailers on varying products, but not jumping into hundreds of affiliate programs. Keep authenticity at the forefront of your mind, recommending products that you actually use / think would help your followers.

Are there terms & conditions to who I can promote or what I can post?

Every brand / retailer has their own terms & conditions on the Avelon Network. Before applying for an affiliate program, we recommend reading their terms & conditions and seeing if the program is a good fit for you.

Avelon also has its own terms & conditions. When you sign up, you agree to these terms & conditions and if you are deemed in contempt of these, you will be entered into our 'strike system'. Just like baseball; three strikes and you're out.
